2010-2011 Project Upgrade Outline - 5th Grade

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011: Clay Animation
Students are creating individual pieces for a video timeline depicting historical characters from their country of heritage or interest. The final product will be displayed here in June when it is complete.

Immigration and Heritage/Oral Histories (new wiki started)
UPDATE 11/12/10: Students have determined which country in their heritage they are interested in finding more about. As a group, they have brainstormed a list of questions that could provide them with stories from friends or family members who have immigrated to the United States, or lived elsewhere. They have also refined their lists into personal questionnaires, which they are using to elicit oral histories.

The long-term objective of this project is to (a) learn about oral histories and immigration, (b) learn something about other parts of the world, culturally, geographically, politically, and economically, (c) write a historical mini-novel, and/or (d) analyze and discuss possibilities to avert major conflicts, to be dramatized by means of clay animation, if time permits.

Information about their country of origin will be presented via digital media on their class wiki.
